Barry Mattern Barry Mattern is the owner of Artistic Sports Academy Plus and the head boys and girls team coach. With over 25 years of coaching experience, Barry was named Pennsylvania’s “Coach of the Year” in 1998, 2001, and 2004. Prior to owning Artistic Sports Academy Plus, he was co-owner to another gymnastics facility in the Harrisburg area. Over the years, Barry has been involved with the Special Olympics, even coaching the 1991 International Special Olympic Champion and the 2001 Junior Olympic National All-Around Champion. Since 1992, Barry has been the Pennsylvania Men’s State Chairman for USA Gymnastics.  Barry is a professional member of USA Gymnastics and is USAG Safety certified.  He also is First Aid/CPR certified.  Barry has coached many athletes that have been national qualifiers and have received college scholarships. Tabby Mattern Tabby is a Kids Zone and recreational class instructor.  She has a degree in Early Childhood Education and has been coaching gymnastics for over 20 years. Tabby was a gymnast for 16 years and dancer for 12 years. She received a full scholarship to Oklahoma State University. She is USAG Safety certified, CPR/First Aid certified and has her Kinder Accreditation for teachers (preschool gymnastics) certification. She has 3 wonderful children and a great hubby. Tabby likes shopping and watching old movies as well as scrap booking and planning parties, weddings and other special gatherings. Her motto is “Do what you love, and you’ll always love what you’re doing.”   Vinny Fattorusso Vinny is our recreational program director, boys competitive team coach and office staff member at ASAP. He’s currently attending Millersville University pursuing his technology education degree.  Vinny has been coaching gymnastics for ten years.  He was a cheerleader at Penn State University and a member of the NCA Cheerleading staff.  He has attended trainings to further his gymnastics education and is First Aid/CPR certified.  Vinny enjoys spending his free time working on his house and spending time with his family. Jennifer Redmond Jennifer is a member of our office staff, and is a Kids Zone and birthday party instructor.  She has been coaching recreational and competitive gymnastics for 18 years.  Once upon a time, Jenn was a competitive gymnast for Erie Gymnastics Center and a varsity cheerleader in high school.  Jenn is CPR/First Aid certified and is PDP I certified (USAG’s professional development program).  She has attended USAG regional congresses and gymnastics workshops for preschool and recreational gymnastics. Jenn has a B.A. in Speech Communications from Edinboro University of PA.   Jenn enjoys spending time with her three children (Carey, Emma and Keegan) and working at ASAP.  Her gymnastics motto is “Never say you can’t, say you’ll try.” Michelle Rimmer Michelle is our birthday party director,as well as a recreational and dance instructor.  She has been teaching dance and basic tumbling for over 10 years.  She was a competitive gymnast for eight years and 12 years of dance experience with a focus on ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip hop.  Michelle has a B.A. in Communications and Theatre from Slippery Rock University.  She is CPR/First Aid certified and recently attended a gymnastics educational workshop focusing on recreational and preschool gymnastics.  Michelle enjoys reading, concerts and spending time with her friends.  Her favorite quote from Skott Freedman is “If you don’t jump, you’ll never know if you can fly.” Michele Mata Michele is ASAP’s Kids Zone Director and a birthday party instructor. She has been coaching at ASAP for 6 years. Michele was a competitive gymnast for 10 years and former teammate of Tabby Mattern. She is First Aid/ CPR certified and has her KAT certification (Kinder Accreditation for teachers). She has attended workshops highlighting recreational and preschool gymnastics. She has two boys, Jonathan and Matthew. In her spare time, Michele enjoys shopping and spending time with her family at the pool watching her kids swim competitively. Melissa Jones Mel is a girls competitive team coach and recreational instructor.  She has been coaching gymnastics for over five years.  Mel was a competitive gymnast at Warwick Dance and Gymnastics Academy in Rhode Island.  Mel has a degree in public and professional communications from Rhode Island College where she was also a gymnastics team member. Erin Gettle Erin is a girls competitive team coach.  Erin was a National and International elite gymnast at Berks Gymnastics in Reading, PA.  In 1998, Erin was the Elite National All-Around Champion.  She attended Auburn University on a full gymnastics scholarship earning her B.A. in business administration.  She has been coaching gymnastics since 2003.  Erin also works for Alpha Factor as a relationship manager. Ashley Miller Ashley is a girls competitive team coach.  She has been coaching gymnastics for eight years.  Ashley was Level 10 state champion for North Stars Gymnastics in New Jersey and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Georgia where she was an SEC All-American on Vault and scored the elusive Perfect 10 on Vault!  She was a member of the Junior National Team and the Senior International Team.   Ashley holds a B.A. in Speech Communications.  Ashley’s motto is “Hard work pays off.”   Diane Shenberger Diane is a Kids Zone instructor. She has coached gymnastics for 10 years. Diane was a high school gymnastics competitor and a Division 3 college diver for 4 years. Diane has an M.S. in nutrition science with an exercise physiology minor. She is a registered dietitian. Diane is married with 2 great kids, one of whom is an ASAP gymnast and coach.  She enjoys running, biking, animals, and especially exploring and learning new things. Her motto is “Never give up, you might surprise yourself!” Kim Brackett Kim is a Kids Zone and Girls Preteam instructor.  Kim has a degree in recreational therapy from South East Missouri State University where she was a college gymnast.  Kim has coached gymnastics for 6 years and has attended USAG educational workshops.  Her daughters are competitive gymnasts at ASAP so she spends most of her time at the gym. Kim enjoys reading and wishes she lived in a warmer climate.   Paige Erdman Paige is a tumbling instructor.  She is a former senior team member of ASAP’s girls competitive team.  She began coaching in 2010.  Paige plans to attend college next fall.   Megan Houser Megan is a recreational class instructor and summer camp instructor.  She began coaching at ASAP in 2010.  Megan is a member of ASAP’s Level 9 gymnastics team.  She is the 2011 Level 9 State Beam Champion. Megan plans on attending either Temple University or University of Pittsburgh in the fall.  Megan’s quote is “If you never fall, you never learn to get back up.”   Wyatt LaPointe Wyatt is a boys recreational instructor.  He is a Level 10 boys team competitor at ASAP.  He began coaching in 2010.  Last year he was a Level 10 National Qualifier. His goal for the future is to go to college on a gymnastics scholarship.  Wyatt is active in his church and traveled to Haiti last spring to help build houses after the earthquake.  Elyse Shenberger Elyse is the girls preteam coach and a recreational instructor.  Elyse is currently a Level 10 gymnast at ASAP. She is a two-time Level 9 National Qualifier.   She hopes to attend college on a gymnastics scholarship.  She has been coaching for 2 years.  Elyse is a senior in high school and also enjoys playing the piano.  She will be attending University of Pennsylvania in the Elyse’s favorite quote is “We worry about what a child will be tomorrow, but we forget that he is a child today.”   Lydia Walker Lydia is a Kids Zone instructor and a birthday party instructor.  She has been coaching at ASAP for 5 months.  Lydia is a former gymnast and enjoys working with preschoolers. She enjoys spending time with her daughter who is a senior this year in high school.   Brad Buchter Brad is a Dry Land Diving instructor at ASAP. He was a PIAA State Diving bronze medalist in 1986 and went on to compete at the University of Pittsburgh on a partial diving scholarship. He has coached diving at many area high schools including Red Land and Cedar Cliff and is the co-founder and coach of the Soaring Eagles U.S. Dive Club. Brad is a certified U.S. Dive Coach and is First Aid and CPR certified.   Shelly Buchter Shelly is a Dry Land Diving instructor. She competed in gymnastics at the college level at the University of Pittsburgh where she earned an MVP award and was captain. She graduated from Pitt with a BS in Mathematics and a MS in Mechanical Engineering. Shelly is co-founder and coach of the Soaring Eagles U.S. Dive Club. She is a certified U.S. Dive Coach, First Aid and CPR certified and has her safety certification from USA Gymnastics.
